Competition Effects and Productivity in Oat–Forage Legume Relay Intercropping Systems under Organic Farming Conditions

چکیده

Cereal-legume intercropping is important in many low-input agricultural systems. Interactions between combinations of different plant species vary widely. Field experiments were conducted to determine yield formation regularities and competition effects oat (Avena sativa L.)–black medick (Medicago lupulina L.), oat–white clover (Trifolium repens oat–Egyptian (T. alexandrinum L.) under organic farming conditions. Oats forage legumes grown mono- intercrops. Aboveground dry matter (DM) measured at flowering, development fruit ripened grain, productivity indicators, grain nutrient content established. The results showed that oats dominated the Oat competitive performance (CPo), which characterized by aboveground mass reduction compared monocrops, 91.4–98.9. As ripened, its competitiveness tendency declined. In oat–forage legume systems, weeds was significantly lower monocrops. competed for P, but N K accumulation biomass not affected. We concluded that, relay intercrop, favourable conditions, easily adapted growth rhythm intensity does adverse effect on their yield.

Analysing productivity in intercropping systems ANALYSIS OF THE PRODUCTIVITY OF UPLAND RICE AND COVER CROPS IN RELAY INTERCROPPING SYSTEMS USING A MECHANISTIC COMPETITION MODEL

Relay intercropping systems with rice cultivars (WAB450-24-3-2-P18-HB (V4) and WAB56-50), the competitive Cajanus cajan and the weakly competitive Stylosanthes hamata were evaluated in the tropical savanna zone in Côte d’Ivoire. The INTERCOM model for competition served for data analysis and understanding of the system based on phenological, physiological and morphological characteristics of th...

Grain legume–cereal intercropping: The practical application of diversity, competition and facilitation in arable and organic cropping systems

Intercropping is the simultaneous cultivation of more than one crop species on the same piece of land and is regarded as the practical application of basic ecological principles such as diversity, competition and facilitation. Field experiments were carried out on a sandy loam soil and a sandy soil in Denmark over three consecutive cropping seasons including dual grain legume (pea, faba bean an...

Emergence of Organic Farming under Imperfect Competition Economic Conditions and Incentives

This article explores the economic conditions for the viability of organic farming in a context of imperfect competition. While most research dealing with this issue has adopted an empirical approach, we propose a theoretical foundation. Farmers have a choice between two technologies, the conventional one using two complementary inputs, chemicals and seeds, and the organic one only requiring or...

Potential Role of Maize-Legume Intercropping Systems to Improve Soil Fertility Status under Smallholder Farming Systems for Sustainable Agriculture in India

The Indian population is growing rapidly (1.25 billion) and it has to fulfill its food and nutrition requirement. A collaborative strategy should be adopted for increasing productivity by intensifying available land use system. Intercropping is advanced management practices of soil fertility status, consisting of cultivating two or more crops in the same space at the same time, which have been ...

Effects of Shade on Nitrogen and Phosphorus Acquisition in Cereal-Legume Intercropping Systems

With increasing economic and environmental costs associated with fertilizer use, the need for low-input agroecological systems is on the rise. It is well documented that intercropping legumes can increase the supply of nutrients, through N2-fixation and P mobilization. Concurrently, the integration of trees in the agricultural landscape shows increasing evidence of nutrient inputs through effic...
